Neptune Energy Norway selected the AVS tool to enhance hole cleaning while drilling using the Splitflow feature of the AVS. The 12 ¼” section was planned to drill at 150-200 m/hr with 4500lpm flowrate as the required rate to maintain effective hole cleaning. However, the BHA could not handle this rate and a splitflow regime had to be considered. This was successfully achieved with the AVS and 2033m was drilled in 24hrs with improved flow resulting in excellent hole cleaning, reducing the risk of stuck pipe. Average ROP’s were 150-200mph.
The hole was in perfect condition for both tripping out the BHA and running the 9 5/8” casing successfully to TD. This was a great application of the Splitflow feature.
